Bio

Kirsten Knisely is a writer / director hailing from Detroit. She is a proud graduate of The University of Michigan and began her career as a playwright. After the success of her first stage play Soul Mates, Knisely went on to collaborate with Jeff Daniels at his renowned Purple Rose Theatre Company.

Her writing and directorial passions brought her to Los Angeles where she’s now focused on creating content with a fresh, female-driven perspective. Knisely has extensive on-set experience as a 1st Assistant Director on high-budget commercial projects for clients such as Amazon, Google and Oakley. She has directed comedic web series, shorts, music videos, and commercials. Her narrative work has been featured on Elizabeth Banks’ WhoHaha, and screened at LA Comedy Fest, LA’s Funny Women Fest, and Vermont’s ITV Fest.

Most recently, after assisting Oscar-nominated Steph Green on the pilot of Showtime’s The L Word: Generation Q, Knisely was promoted to Writer’s Assistant – joining the show’s Writer’s Room under Showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan.
